For the Conservatorium of Music (Uni of Tas.), this A2 poster was designed for low printing costs, and to be displayed in Tasmanian colleges (year 11 and 12 schools) to help correct preconceptions that only classical music can be studied at “the con”.
The design was initially inspired by the retro jazz posters, that feature just a minimal amount of colours, flat colour and large simple text. The design immediately communicates noise upon first glance, by the angles adopted by each element, looking like noise spurting out of a trumpet in a comic. The trim lines, badly cropped look of the poster, and high contrast colour scheme combine to bring a trendy style, while still being clean enough to belong to the University client.
